The Social Corporation for the Rehabilitation of those affected by Hansen Disease CORSOHANSEN is an NGO established on April 13 2002 by two people affected by leprosy and two of their family members. It is based in the city of Agua de Dios, Cundinamarca, Colombia. Its main objective is to develop cultural, recreational social and research activities. As well as to carry out sensitisation campaigns to prevent, reduce and eliminate stigma and discrimination against people affected by leprosy. The aim is to increase the quality of life of those affected by leprosy and their families, integrating them to Colombian society, accessing job opportunities and with increased access to adequate health services.

 

	Initiative to commemorate World Leprosy Day for the first time in Colombia for 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. The Day against Stigma was also institutionalised in 2004.
	A group of local organisation and with the help of the local government generated technical, human, financial and operational efforts to strengthen the local arts school to be used as a regional pilot point to teach arts in Agua de Dios.
	Alliance with LA UNIÓN TEMPORAL VITALMENTE INTEGRAL in 2006 to carry out workshops about the emotional aspects of people affected by leprosy and TB.
	Special guest participation, representing Colombia, to the presentation of historic document registrers of old leprosy colony hospitals in Brasil. This was coordinated by MORHAN (movement to reintegrate persons affected by leprosy) and took place in the Colonia Curupaiti Hospital, in Río de Janeiro, Brazil.
	Mobilising the community in a Colombian ex-leprosy colony to fight against stigma. In cooperation with LEPRA Health in Action, UK. Ongoing project.

PHYSICAL STRUCTURE

CORSOHANSEN offices are located in Calle 12 No 10-46 in the municipality of Agua de Dios, Cundinamarca. Our offices are fully equipped to carry out different activities as part of our existing programmes.

MISSION We work firmly to remove the stigma attached to leprosy and the existing prejudices of Colombian society about leprosy and the population of Agua de Dios and Contratacion with the aim of obtaining a better quality of life free from discrimination for those affected by leprosy and their relatives.

VISIÓN Those affected by leprosy and their families enjoy a better quality of life, integrated to Colombian society with job opportunities and access to adequate health services.
